Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Combining different perspectives, styles, skills, life and work experiences are the magic ingredients for a rewarding career for our people; better outcomes for our clients and becoming the firm we aspire to be.

We are committed to ensure that everyone working with or for Hymans Robertson is treated fairly, equally and equitably. We work to foster a culture of belonging. This commitment is set out in full in our Diversity Equity and Inclusion policy.

Our goal is for Hymans Robertson to better reflect and represent the wider UK population as far as possible. To us, this is quite simply the right thing to do for many reasons and we care deeply about achieving this goal.

For our 100th birthday we've been focusing on themes that tie in with our purpose of 'Together, building better futures'. You can re-watch our DEI webinar replays and read our DEI vision below.

OUR DEI VISION

Gender equality

Like many businesses across the UK, we found women were under-represented at a senior level in the firm. We have been, and continue to, work hard to improve this gender balance through reciprocal mentoring, flexible working practices, technology to support agile working and support for those returning from maternity and shared parental leave. We’re pleased to report that women now represent 35% of our partners. Our work is far from finished however, and we continue to challenge unconscious bias and out-dated perceptions of work and career paths to increase the number of women progressing to the top level in our firm.

What we're doing

Ignorance is diversity, equity and inclusion's biggest enemy. We want everyone to understand and acknowledge the experiences of others, so that they can be the best agents for change. That’s why we have mandatory diversity, equity and inclusion training, run ‘diversity dialogues’ on a range of topics, and most recently launched our Allyship programme.

As part of our 100th birthday celebrations we hosted a series of webinars on the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion. You can re-watch those sessions below. We also asked our staff what inclusion means to them. Check the link below to find out what they had to say.

Current initiatives include:

  • projects to increase the ethnic and social diversity of our job applicants
  • the roll-out of a suite of family-friendly policies
  • our participation in the Government's ‘Disability Confident’ scheme
  • partnering with Stonewall to ensure that our employment offering and work environment speak to the LGBT+ communities in a compelling and engaging way
  • joining the Diversity Project as a participating member on their Steering Committee and Advisory Council

Ignorance is diversity, equity and inclusion's biggest enemy. We want everyone to understand and acknowledge the experiences of others, so that they can be the best agents for change.

Hearing every voice

Achieving our goals requires ongoing dialogue and action. To make sure that every voice is heard, our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion group, made up of individuals from across the firm, seeks feedback and ideas from all areas of the business on a regular basis. The group discusses topical issues, shares knowledge and experience and makes recommendations to senior management, often sponsoring events themselves.

We are committed to achieving our goals of an inclusive, diverse, happy, fulfilled and productive workforce. Not only for the benefits to our people, but the benefits to our firm, our clients and wider society.
