Our 2023 Stewardship Code report

22 Jul 2024 - Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

At Hymans, we encourage – and challenge – our clients to be better stewards. Each year, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) offers organisations the opportunity to become signatories to its Stewardship Code. We’re signatories to the Code, but we don’t take this position for granted: we strive for ongoing improvement to earn our accreditation each year. We’re delighted to remain signatories to the Code and proud to share our stewardship report for 2023 here.

Highlights of 2023’s progress in our focus areas include:

  • Catalysing action on climate change – we helped our clients develop and implement climate transition action plans, and we developed our climate-scenario modelling.
  • Driving accountability through stewardship – we created our stewardship working group and launched our Manager Engagement Programme. We’ve supported 11 clients to become or remain Stewardship Code signatories.
  • Focusing on social issues – we explored how AI is being considered by asset managers and how we can better use the technology. We coordinated training on modern slavery issues and added the consideration of human rights to our manager review.
  • Expanding our consideration of biodiversity – we worked with external stakeholders on deforestation and ocean biodiversity issues, publishing material on both subjects. We’ve also helped clients evaluate investments in natural capital.
  • Pushing for more impactful investment – we added an impact specialist to our team in 2023. We also worked with clients to develop their understanding of impact and begun developing mechanisms to measure and prioritise impactful investments.

Our report also summarises progress against our commitments under the Net Zero Investment Consultants Initiative.

If you’d like to discuss anything that’s covered in our response in more detail, please get in touch.
