05 Aug 2024
In this quarter’s RI News & Views, we look at the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). We explore if, and when, the taskforce might become mandatory based on learnings from the implementation of TCFD, the equivalent climate disclosure framework. We emphasise that while reporting is important, the ultimate goal should be action, exploring what asset owners can do now.
Our Significant Votes section looks at climate change and recent pushback to collective climate action, exploring ExxonMobil’s lawsuit against two shareholder activism groups. The article reflects on the climate-related resolutions at oil supermajors over the AGM season and considers the effectiveness of shareholder resolutions and voting against directors.
In our ESG Snippets, we cover the recent boycotting of financial service providers given their position on fossil fuels, an issue that highlighted the divest versus engage debate in a slightly different context. We also cover updates to the IIGCC’s Net Zero Framework, ShareAction’s paper on fossil-fuel producers and recent developments at the Science Based Targets initiative.
