Our quarterly pensions and investments market update
Investment Perspectives - February 2023
20 Feb 2023
Welcome to our February 2023 edition of Investment Perspectives.
Since our last issue of Investment Perspectives, markets have had an unusually challenging few months. Even the most risk-averse investor couldn’t have avoided the effects of the UK government’s mini-budget, which caused unprecedented volatility in bond markets and pushed up yields. Meanwhile, rising inflation continued to feed into a cost-of-living crisis that affects us all. So, it’s been a tumultuous time, to say the least. Nevertheless, the return of relative political stability in the UK, helped by hopes that inflation has peaked, gives us cause for optimism.
- We start with the first in our new series of articles on endgame planning, where Elaine Torry explores the role of investment strategies on the journey to buy-out.
- Elaine Torry then looks at the year ahead and shares her thoughts about investment themes that will be key in 2023.
- Asad Rashid discusses the outlook for renewable energy in a post-subsidy world – or ‘Renewables 2.0’, for those in the know.
- Phil Hardingham tackles the themes of liquidity, diversification and stress-testing in his piece on collateral waterfall.
- Andre Ranchin discusses the investment implications of biodiversity, the framework for which was established at COP15.
- And finally, Chris Arcari presents his views on the outlook for each key asset class in his capital markets update.
