Stephen Makin is a partner in the Life and Financial Services team and has been with Hymans Robertson for 3½ years.  He has two main responsibilities – firstly to look after the team in Scotland and also to lead the firm’s risk and capital management services across the UK, covering Solvency ll, economic capital, transactions, restructuring and M&A.

Asked about what attracted him to Hymans Robertson he described “Since its beginnings in 1921 Hymans Robertson has been a defined benefits actuarial consultancy. While that is still our bread and butter, we are much, much more than that now. Diversification has been a strong theme in my time here – we have market leading longevity insights from Club Vita, a thriving workplace savings proposition and – importantly from my perspective – a strong and growing Life and Financial Services practice.  The Board is firmly behind the team’s growth plans and it’s a really exciting phase for us.”

The Life and Financial Services practice offers a “whole of market” life insurance consulting. We offer highly skilled, highly professional consultancy on product development, investment, ALM, risk and capital management, M&A, longevity, part 7 transfers and the list goes on. 

Stephen would characterise his time and role here as varied – and it’s not just variety in the technical areas of his work but also getting involved in business development, helping to grow the practice, meeting clients and prospects, attending conferences and networking that keeps things interesting for him.
