07 Dec 2022
Welcome to our 2022 December edition of Investment Perspectives.
In the weeks since our last update, we’ve seen two Prime Ministers enter Downing Street, sharp spikes in UK gilt yields, and banks battling to control rising inflation. Recognising the challenges that have emerged this quarter, this issue of Investment Perspectives explores some key themes that are dominating market discourse.

In this edition, Tom Spence writes about the role of liability-driven investing (LDI) in client portfolios. A specialist in LDI, Tom recently joined us as a Senior Investment Consultant and brings some fresh perspectives on the issues facing our clients. We’ve also prepared the following articles to help you stay abreast of market developments and our latest thinking:
- Chris Arcari, Head of Capital Markets, presents his views on the recent market volatility and outlook for each key asset class.
- Ben Farmer and Chris Arcari outline the steps that pension scheme trustees can take to prepare for recessionary conditions.
- A year on from COP26, Mhairi Gooch takes stock and shares the ways in which we’ve helped our clients implement plans to achieve net-zero investment strategies.
- Lachlan Smith explores the pros and cons of multi-factor investing, asking which factors should fare well in an environment of rising rates.
- A new cohort of individual investors has sprung up, attracted by trading apps that have democratised investing. Having shown they have the power to move stock prices, Peter Challis explores whether this should worry institutional investors.
Looking ahead; we know recent weeks have been hard for many people in our industry. As ever, our team of consultants is happy to discuss any of the topics in this edition. As 2022 draws to a close, we wish you a prosperous and positive end to the year.
