In this quarter's RI News & Views, we explore the upcoming climate-related shareholder resolutions aimed at the banking sector. A coalition of institutional investors and advocacy groups have collaborated to file multiple resolutions at US banks, with similar resolutions having first been filed last year receiving modest support, reflecting a growing trend of shareholders looking to hold banks accountable for their climate action.

We also consider the lessons learnt on Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures (‘TCFD’) given the first wave of reports have been published. We reflect on the trends that have emerged and highlight common challenges seen across schemes.

Finally, our ESG Snippets section centres around the theme of greenwashing, and the steps being taken across the industry to ensure that ‘sustainability’ labelled products are credible. From the SFDR Article 8 and 9 disclosure changes, to the FCA consultation on ESG labelling, it is clear that a common lexicon is needed to navigate the ESG investment landscape.
