Meaningful work with amazing people
01 Sep 2017
After returning from an amazing holiday, I had a summer internship ahead of me which I was really looking forward to, considering the chance I was getting to encounter new opportunities and experiences. Upon arriving on the first day, I was introduced to my buddy who in turn helped me navigate around the office by introducing me to people which really made me feel welcomed. Later that day, I was attending a weekly client team meeting which comprised of people from all seniority levels. Who knew I would already be involved on such a scale. It has been 6 weeks into the internship today and the level of responsibility I have been given has increased swiftly.
Hymans Robertson has a culture of openness and transparency where everyone can make a crucial difference; every persons’ contribution is valued, no matter their position or years of experience. It is the people; everyone part of it is friendly and approachable regardless of their position. My people manager, buddy and all the other colleagues have been highly involved and supportive from the first day, giving advice, providing explanations, sharing insights and always being willing to help with technical and functional walk-throughs. It offers a diverse and stimulating work environment where innovative independent thinking is promoted. I like how interns are treated just like full-time employees getting assigned actual and meaningful tasks which are vital and beneficial to the work engagements. For all the interns, there have been training sessions conducted by our colleagues to learn about the technicalities involved not only in our division but also the others that exist within the firm.
After the hard work the people pull off, the firm makes constant efforts to organize socials for the people to enjoy themselves and getting to know each other better. I have participated in various firm events forging friendships with my fellow interns and colleagues.
The internship has been a notable experience because of the opportunities I have been offered on and away from my desk. I have met amazing people and the work has been compelling. I am thankful for this opportunity knowing that I learnt a lot from the talented group of professionals here.
