Life at Hymans
My first six months as a developer
15 May 2023 - Estimated reading time: 3min
I joined Hymans Robertson as a Senior Developer in September 2022. The interview process was a good experience, with Hymans Robertson making me feel at ease throughout.
I wanted to be sure that I’d make a difference at Hymans and that the role would be right for both parties. In-depth conversations with the delivery lead assured me that Hymans was doing some interesting work, investing in modern technology and working in an agile environment. But it was Hymans Robertson's investment in people that really attracted me to the company. They put people at the heart of their proposition, providing a safe place to learn and grow within the role. Joining a new company can sometimes be stressful, but the onboarding and induction process is excellent, giving you time and space to find your feet. You are fully supported along the way.
Since joining I’ve been really impressed with the focus on code quality, lean development practices, use of test automation and a firm focus on using next generation development languages, build tools and deployment platforms. There’s also strong emphasis on sharing ideas and cross pollination between teams. With knowledge being shared through both Teams channels, Yammer, and through regular learning sessions.
My first six months within the partnership has been great. It’s a privilege to be working along-side and learning from some of the most talented people in the technology and pensions business.
