Daniel is a dedicated Senior Pensions Administrator at Hymans Robertson with a career spanning six years in the pensions industry. We caught up with him to find out more about his journey so far in the world of pensions, his path into the industry and his favourite things about working here…

Tell us a bit about yourself… 

I began my career in pensions about six years ago as a trainee admin with another firm. Over time, I transitioned into an administrator role and eventually moved to Birmingham. In October 2021, I became a Senior Pensions Administrator here at Hymans. My current role involves checking and producing work for clients and their members, such as retirement quotes and transfer quotes. I also spend a significant amount of time on project work, assisting clients with tasks like interfacing with insurers, addressing data requests, and answering insurer inquiries. In August 2022, I left Hymans to work at another company as a governance consultant but decided to come back to Hymans.

What drew you back to Hymans?

I missed the collaborative and supportive way of working at Hymans and the direct interaction with colleagues in my office. After realising I missed the work I was doing before, the friendly culture, and the team dynamics at Hymans, I decided to return. It's the sense of connection and the working environment that drew me back.

How did you initially get into your role in pensions administration?

It's an interesting story. I studied history for both my degree and master's, but when I couldn't find anything in that field, I stumbled upon a job in pensions administration. Surprisingly, I ended up loving it, and here I am, six years later.

What's your favourite thing about working at Hymans?

 The friendly atmosphere is a big plus, not just with the people I work with but also with those in higher positions. There's a genuine care for individuals beyond just getting the work done. The office culture promotes teamwork, and there are plenty of social activities that contribute to a great team vibe.

I had only been with Hymans for three months when the pandemic hit. Compared to other employers, I saw Hymans really step up in taking care of their staff during that challenging time. This care has continued with the flexible working arrangements, such as two days in the office and three at home. When I first came back, I also appreciated the flexibility to work 8-4 to better accommodate my family circumstances. It's a supportive and understanding environment.
