The Gen Z perspective

25 Mar 2021

Overview

For 100 years, we’ve been embracing change, innovating and navigating uncertainty. We’re proud to host our inaugural event on climate change where we share our vision for the future. We want to work with you to make a difference and help build a sustainable future for generations to come.

Watch the second keynote session from our climate change event. We wanted to understand the views of the electorate that care, those who inherited rather than created the problem of climate change.

Zamzam discusses her background and how she got into climate activism with Students Organising for Sustainability UK. She believes that climate change and social injustice are strongly related, as climate change often impacts disadvantaged groups the most.

In order to tackle these issues she discusses her involvement in a number of activist campaigns including race for nature- incorporating people of colour and different backgrounds to get more involved in climate activism, teach the future- equipping and training teachers to be able to talk about climate change with their students, and create critical thinkers for the future.

The journey matters more than the destination- although we all have different views and opinions on climate change, we need to all start this journey towards saving the planet, and act together to make a difference.

We want to play our part in a net-zero carbon future. To mark our 100th birthday we’re making a pledge to become carbon neutral from 2021 and to be lifetime net zero by 2025. You can find out more about our climate vision here.
